Finding Art Once Again
For this artist, art and music were always synonymous. He grew up in a household were singing and painting was prevalent. As he went to school he then learned that not all the children had a knack for drawing or singing. When he was a teenager he concentrated more on music and this is the career path he has chosen. Growing up he would play with bands and earn more than he was earning working at a car wash.
He still played on even after 30 years. It was not about 12 years ago that he decided to explore painting again. He then discovered that he still knew how to paint. Now he is both a musician and an artist just like when he was a child. The subjects of his paintings are deeper now compared to when he was younger. Taking painting lessons from a friend who was also a musician was what he did first. With the guidance of his mentor he was able to learn his realistic style. Some of his pieces that resulted from those lessons were a painting that was chosen as a promotional print the year it was painted, and a portrait of a long haired, white cat.
The outcomes will always bring with it the message you want to say. He looks for where the emotional impact lies in every scene that he does. He makes sure that the image of a person he is painting is flattering. For him, flattery comes natural with the right lighting.
Your images will become more three dimensional if you are able to capture the right lighting and shadow depth. Despite using watercolor, some people still perceive it to be oil. He makes use of watercolor since it is easy for him to work with. Visit portrait painting on canvas for more great resources on paintings.
Among other projects he had to create a mural for a couple who live in the Clover Hill section of Frederick. The image was of colonial Williamsburg which covered one wall in the house. It is due to their interest for the early American village that they asked for a whole wall worth of art. 10 feet wide by 4 feet tall is how wide the mural is which is of a fictional street.
With the addition of wagons and people dressed in colonial garb and hollyhocks he was able to make the image more real. Normally he would work about six to 12 hours a day four days a week for the project. Being free of the other three days he would rehearse for his performances. Painting, he said, drains you physically and mentally. This is due to the amount of concentration that is needed.
